Simple things... small joys...

One of the simplest things we can do to yield small joys is to read. At least that is how it is for me when I'm reading. A small escape to a place unknown or with characters who hold one's attention. A simple thing and yet a simple joy.

This past week's Challenge on the Friday Sketchers challenge site is this layout (above). I chose to use the first Tilda stamp I ever purchased and it continues to be one I enjoy each time I stamp her. I like her studious look, don't you?

The background papers I used for this particular layout challenge, by K & Company, actually blend in with the layout so you'll have to look close to see that yes indeed, I followed the sketch, but added my own stitching to the layers on the background.

Aren't the coordinating background papers pretty? I found this stack by K & Company on sale at Michael's this week. It is actually double sided (printed) papers and each of the papers coordinates in a sort of patchwork quilt type of way. I am going to enjoy using all of the different combinations.

Besides the gingham ribbon and button, I also added some more of the flower button brads that I also used in the last card I posted. Tilda is colored with Tombow markers and a bit of dimensional glaze is added to her glasses as well as Frosted Lace Stickles to her wings.

Are you in the middle or have you just finished a good book? I'd love it if you'd share in the comments. I'm always looking for recommendations for good books. The genre makes no difference. Please share what book you've recently enjoyed.

Cheers!

  2. Lovely card Jennifer! Studious Tilda is very cute! I'm a huge reader too and one book I just finished which I would highly recommend is by Khaled Hossein 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' (he also wrote The Kite Runner). Great read.

  3. Adorable Jennifer, great job on the challenge. I've already filled you in about Persuasion by Jane Austen, I'm now reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck and I so far I think it's great, I'll probably read more from him in the future.

  6. I just LOVE this Tilda image, as I am a bookworm. And you make her even more adorable than she already is. Lots going on and I'm not dropping my nose into anything, although I do have a book from the library that I'm lugging around with me just in case I get the urge. Hope all is well with you, Paul, the newlyweds and your menagerie!

  7. I think your cards are all terrific - but I have to tell you I am enjoying your music sooooooo much. I open up your blog first thing - and leave it open while I'm doing all my other computer stuff - just so I can listen to your music. Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful - thanks so much!!!
