Double embossing

I like fairies. I like the idea of fairies. I like Tinkerbell. Do you think there are garden fairies?

Well, today I'm introducing my very first fairy stamp. Meet Capri. Capri is one of the Enchanted Hollow collection that I recently purchased at Heather's Stamping Haven in Ottawa, Ontario. Heather has created a few other fairies in the Enchanted Hollow collection as well as a unicorn that is next on my shopping list.

This is my first card using Capri and I thought the image went perfectly with a challenge to use double embossing. The idea of double embossing is to use two different embossing folders and run them through your Cuttlebug, or whatever machineor method you use to emboss, and get a double pattern. For the background of this card I used the Cuttlebug swiss dots folder first and lightly sanded the surface to make the dots "pop". Then I used the swirls embossing folder on top to emulate the swirls on Capri's dress.

I also used a Nestibilities fancy flourish die for the swirl in pink and purple. The image was watercolored with Tombow markers and then I added a lot of stickles and crystals to give it more sparkle.

As is my usual problem, my photography doesn't pick up the mystical shimmery and glittery effect I've tried to achieve. Trust me. This card does sparkle with fairy dust.

Double embossing was a new technique to me. I'm always up for a challenge and it was a lot of fun to try out.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Hmm... double embossing eh... I will have to try it!

Uh, Jennifer what are you talking about, I can totally see the glitter. The card is gorgeous, my friend!

  2. I love fairies and have many many fairy stamps. I love this one and may need it. LOL. Precious card.

  3. This is a beautiful card!! I don't know if there are garden fairies or not--- but if there are, I sure wish they would fertilize my plants and give them some TLC, because they could sure use it!!!

  4. She's adorable! Great card and double embossing. I don't think I've seen one stamp that you've used from Heather's that I didn't like! So happy to see fairies and vegies here. My cousin decided to send me a card the other day. I about fell over when I pulled those furwads out of that envelope! Thank goodness they were eating chocolate, although I could have used some about then , too.

  5. Such a precious card Jennifer! The soft, subtle colors are perfect for your sweet little fairy image! :)

  6. Oh Jennifer, beautiful job with Capri! I adore this fairy stamp (I have quite a few from Heather's collection) and the colours and your colouring are just fabulous! As for the double embossing, totally brilliant and so effective! Love it.
    Hugs, Danielle
ps. I hope maybe we will be in Heather's at the same time one day and say hi!

  7. Very pretty! I like the soft shading and simplicity of the design.

  8. Hi Jennifer! Fabulous card...nice to see another local fan of Heather's! Are you planning on checking out the anniversary celebrations? I'm hoping to squeeze in a visit or two for the make and takes. And to answer your question, the name came about because I am from Newfoundland, no doggies for me. But I must say, yours are beautiful!

Thank you for taking the time to leave me a comment. I truly appreciate them.
